ECHO buying guide
ECHO is a long-time name in professional outdoor power equipment: string trimmers, backpack blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers and edgers. The brand belongs to Yamabiko Corporation of Japan, and ECHO Inc. is based in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Landscape and maintenance crews know the orange gas tools; the newer eFORCE 56V battery line is ECHO's answer to California's zero-emission rules. This is a buying guide, not a crew review.

Gas or eFORCE: which ECHO fits your work
Gas
Gas ECHO tools are light for their power, run all day on a jug of mix, and are easy to repair at a dealer. Since California's AB 1346 rules, new small off-road engines sold in California (model year 2024 and later) must be zero-emission. Gas tools you already own are still legal to use and repair. Outside California, new gas ECHO tools are widely sold.
eFORCE 56V
eFORCE is ECHO's battery line. It is quiet, makes no exhaust, and has no fuel to mix. The trade-off is battery cost and runtime: a crew running blowers all day needs several packs and a way to charge them in the truck. See our trimmers and mowers comparison.
Warranty: consumer vs commercial
ECHO's warranty depends on how you use the tool:
- Consumer (homeowner): 5 years on most gas tools and eFORCE tools.
- Commercial (paid work): 2 years on most tools; gas chainsaws are 1 year commercial.
- eFORCE batteries and chargers: 2 years for both consumer and commercial.
Register the tool with ECHO and keep the receipt. If you use the tool for paid work, the commercial term applies even if it was sold as a homeowner tool.
How to buy ECHO without overpaying
- Dealer prices can match Home Depot, and dealers handle service. Ask about spring and fall promos.
- Buy pre-mixed ethanol-free fuel or ECHO's own oil, and mix at the ratio on the tool. See mixing fuel.
- On eFORCE, price the battery and charger separately before choosing a kit.

Safety notes
- Wear eye protection, hearing protection and long pants with trimmers and blowers.
- Use chainsaw chaps, a helmet with face screen and gloves with chainsaws.
- Never refuel a hot engine. Let it cool and move away from where you fueled before starting.
Our take so far
Our crew uses outdoor power equipment on maintenance jobs, but we have not published ECHO crew notes.
